Winter Is Coming ❄️

Monthly Update!

In October we made a last-minute decision to leave the RV behind for a bit and take a spontaneous trip across the pond!

If there is one thing we have learned in our years of travel, it's that when opportunities appear, you say yes!

So within a span of 2 weeks, we booked our tickets and headed on a plane from Boston to London for 12 days of visiting family and sightseeing in England. We even made time for some epic hiking in Wales!

We are definitely feeling the itch to explore more of Europe (van-life Europe, anyone!?), but for now, we are preparing to head South for winter and charting our course for 2024!

Fall has been the season of family and friends and we are reminded that it is the connections we have that make life and our adventures so worthwhile. People are what makes this journey special. Thank you all for being here and for sharing your experiences with us as well!

Sincerely,

Alyssa & Zach

Travel Tips: Winterizing & Planning Ahead

If you are a part-time RVer living in a colder climate, you are likely coming into the season of putting your rig away for a long winter's nap. To help make things easier once the flowers start blooming next spring, here are a few winterizing tips:

  • Drain the Water System: Make sure to completely drain the fresh water and wastewater systems. This includes emptying the water tanks, water heater, and all water lines to prevent freezing and damage.
  • Add Antifreeze: After draining the water, use RV-safe antifreeze to protect the plumbing system. Run the antifreeze through the water lines and fixtures, ensuring all areas are covered to prevent freezing.
  • Seal Openings: Inspect your RV for any openings where cold air or critters might enter. Seal gaps, cracks, and vents with weatherstripping, silicone, or other suitable materials.
  • Remove Batteries: If your RV will be in storage, remove the batteries and store them in a warm, dry place. Cold temperatures can damage batteries.
  • Inspect the Roof and Seals: Check the roof and seals for any damage or wear. Repair or reseal any areas that may allow water or cold air to penetrate.

If you are a full-time RVer like us, you are likely setting your sights on warmer destinations. You might also be noticing that popular winter destinations (like Arizona and Florida) can be tough to book last minute, proving the importance of planning ahead. The same is true as you think about where the 2024 camping season will take you!

Reminder:

  • Most State Parks and National Parks will open campsite reservations 6 months in advance. These often fill up the day they open! So if you want to be camping by May, it's time to start researching and planning so you can start booking in the coming months!
  • Peak season in popular places (like Yellowstone, Glacier, Rocky Mountains, etc.) is the busiest time. Even private campgrounds can fill up, and they will often have people booking 8-12 months in advance.

It's time to get excited, start researching, and begin booking! Every fall we start mapping our route, planning our stops, and tracking our expenses using the RV Trip Wizard Tool - it has been a lifesaver!

Monthly Update! Punxsutawney Phil said early spring..are you ready for RVing season!? The past month has been a busy one for us! In 2023 we saw our confidence as full-time RVers blossom as we traveled to 10 states and 4 Canadian Provinces while covering all of the east coast from Key West in Florida up to Newfoundland in Atlantic Canada. We put our 40-foot RV on a ferry, snuck in international travel to England and Wales, and had the luxury of spending great quality time with friends and family throughout the...
